Queen Anne rises on a hill northwest of downtown, but the part that matters most to visitors is Lower Queen Anne (also called Uptown), the flat district at the hill's base where the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and the rest of Seattle Center are clustered. Further up the hill, quiet residential streets and Kerry Park's postcard skyline view give the neighborhood a calmer, more local feel.

Transportation & practical information

The Seattle Center Monorail reaches Westlake Center downtown in about two minutes. Frequent bus routes connect Lower Queen Anne to downtown and South Lake Union; walking up the hill to Kerry Park takes 15-20 minutes.

Skip the rental car for the areas in this guide. Downtown parking is expensive and often scarce, traffic can back up badly at rush hour, and light rail plus walking cover Downtown, Belltown, Capitol Hill, and Queen Anne well. A car only starts to make sense for day trips out to the mountains or the Olympic Peninsula.
