Where to Stay in Hiroshima

Hiroshima is best known for the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, a preserved ruin that stands as the city's central memorial to August 6, 1945. But it's also a genuinely pleasant, walkable city to spend a day or two in beyond the memorial sites, with a compact downtown, a working streetcar network, and Miyajima Island — home to the famous "floating" torii gate — a short ferry ride away. Most visitors base themselves downtown. Don't miss the Peace Memorial Museum, and plan at least a half-day for Miyajima if you have the time.

Japan uses the yen. Hiroshima's streetcar (tram) network is the easiest way to get around downtown and to the Peace Memorial Park, and a Suica, Pasmo, ICOCA, or local MOBIRY DAYS IC card works on it. The city is very walkable and safe at any hour.
