Where to Stay in Delhi

Delhi is India's capital and, for most visitors, the start of the trip — the gateway to the Golden Triangle and a city with two thousand years of layered history packed into it. Old Delhi's Mughal-era lanes, Jama Masjid, and the Red Fort sit a short drive from New Delhi's colonial-era boulevards, government buildings, and Connaught Place's shopping circle. Some neighborhoods work much better than others for visitors staying a few nights before or after Agra and Jaipur.

Quick facts

Best time to visit
Visit October through March. November to February is cool and comfortable, though December and January mornings can be genuinely cold and foggy. April through June is extremely hot, and the monsoon (July–September) brings humid, wet weather.
Renting a car
Skip driving yourself. Traffic is dense, lane discipline is loose, and parking near the main sights is limited. The metro, plus auto-rickshaws or ride-hailing apps for the last stretch, covers everything here.

A couple of hotels in Connaught Place

Connaught Place is the top-recommended area to stay in Delhi.

Radisson Blu Marina Hotel Connaught Place

★★★★
  • 📍 Best location

Our take A dependable, centrally located choice for visitors who'd rather have a known international brand than a heritage or boutique stay.

Highlights

  • Steps from Connaught Place's shops, restaurants, and Rajiv Chowk metro station
  • Rooftop restaurant with views over the circle
  • Consistent, predictable service that comes with an international chain

What to know

  • Connaught Circus traffic is noisy by day — ask for a higher floor or inward-facing room if you sleep lightly

The Imperial, New Delhi

★★★★★
  • ✨ Best luxury
  • 🏛️ Best for architecture & design

Our take One of Delhi's grand heritage hotels — a genuine slice of 1930s New Delhi with modern five-star service, right on the edge of Connaught Place.

Highlights

  • Original 1930s Art Deco architecture and interiors, maintained rather than renovated away
  • Large gardens and a quiet pool, far from the Connaught Place traffic outside the gates
  • Several long-standing restaurants and bars on site, plus a well-known afternoon tea room

What to know

  • Priced well above Connaught Place's other hotels — this is a splurge stay, not a budget alternative
  • The heritage building's room layouts can be less efficient than a newer luxury build's

Useful travel information

India uses the rupee. The Delhi Metro is clean, cheap, and the easiest way to move between the central neighborhoods, avoiding the city's often heavy traffic. Air quality dips sharply in winter, especially November, when pollution levels regularly reach unhealthy levels — worth checking before you go if you have respiratory concerns.

Tips

  • Book Taj Mahal and other onward Golden Triangle tickets or trains a few days ahead in the busy October–March season.
  • Old Delhi's lanes around Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid are best explored on foot or by cycle-rickshaw — cars can't get through many of them.
