Cappadocia is a volcanic region in central Turkey known for fairy chimney rock formations, rock-cut churches, and hundreds of cave hotels carved into the soft tuff stone. It isn't a single city but a cluster of small towns and villages spread across a wide valley system; most visitors base themselves in Göreme, the largest and most central town, or Uçhisar, a quieter hilltop village a few kilometers away. Sunrise hot air balloon flights over the valleys are the region's best-known draw, alongside the Göreme Open Air Museum's Byzantine rock-cut churches and Uçhisar Castle, a natural rock citadel visible from much of the area.

Cappadocia has no local rail or tram network — Göreme and Uçhisar are both small enough to walk around, but getting between towns or out to sights like Kaymaklı or the Ihlara Valley means a taxi, a rental car, or an organized tour minibus. The two nearest airports are Nevşehir Kapadokya (NAV), about 30–45 minutes from Göreme by transfer, and Kayseri Erkilet (ASR), roughly 60–90 minutes away.
