Belltown sits just north of downtown's retail core, along the waterfront running up toward the Olympic Sculpture Park. Once a semi-industrial, low-rent arts district, it's now Seattle's most densely populated neighborhood, packed with restaurants, bars, and residential towers, with the free, unwalled sculpture park anchoring its northern end.

What it's actually like to stay here

Dense and a little more low-key than downtown proper — a steady mix of restaurants, cafés, and nightlife spots at street level, with condo and apartment towers rising above.

Transportation & practical information

Walking covers downtown, the waterfront, and Pike Place Market easily. Light rail isn't in the neighborhood itself, but Westlake station is a 10-15 minute walk, and buses run along 1st and 3rd Avenue.

Skip the rental car for the areas in this guide. Downtown parking is expensive and often scarce, traffic can back up badly at rush hour, and light rail plus walking cover Downtown, Belltown, Capitol Hill, and Queen Anne well. A car only starts to make sense for day trips out to the mountains or the Olympic Peninsula.
