Mykonos Town, known locally as Chora, is the island's capital and its most walkable base — a maze of narrow, whitewashed pedestrian lanes climbing from the old harbor. On the hill above town stand the five windmills of Kato Mili, the island's best-known landmark, and just below them, Little Venice, a row of 18th-century houses with wooden balconies built directly over the water. Chora holds the bulk of the island's restaurants, jewelry and fashion boutiques, and its late-night bar and club scene, concentrated in the lanes around Matogianni Street and the Little Venice waterfront.

Busy and social from late afternoon through the early morning, with the pedestrian lanes filling up for dinner and staying loud well past midnight around the bar streets and Little Venice. Quieter in the morning, when the shops are still opening and the crowds haven't arrived yet.
