Where to Stay in Palermo, Buenos Aires

Palermo is Buenos Aires's largest and most varied barrio, stretching from the restaurant-and-boutique grid of Palermo Soho through the quieter, design-hotel-heavy streets of Palermo Hollywood to the open parkland of the Bosques de Palermo, with its rose garden and the domed Galileo Galilei Planetarium. What locals still call one neighborhood is really several overlapping ones — Soho for shopping and bars around Plaza Serrano, Hollywood for restaurants and boutique hotels since the film and TV production companies that gave it its name moved in, and the parks for a break from the city grid entirely. It's the center of gravity for Buenos Aires's restaurant and nightlife scene.

What it's actually like to stay here

Buzzy and design-conscious, especially after dark — low-rise streets packed with independent boutiques, wine bars, and restaurants that barely get going before 9pm. It's noticeably calmer and greener toward Palermo Hollywood and the parks.

Best for couples and nightlife-focused travelers who want to walk to the city's best restaurants and bars, and for design-minded visitors who'd rather stay in a small boutique hotel than a big chain property.

Stay elsewhere if

Consider Recoleta instead if you want a quieter, more traditional base, or San Telmo if a compact historic core matters more to you than restaurants and nightlife — Palermo is large enough that some of its outer edges have little to do with the city center.

Walkability
Walkable within each pocket — Soho and Hollywood are both flat, low-rise grids that reward wandering — but the barrio as a whole is large, and getting from one end to the other is more of a taxi or bus trip than a walk.
Noise at night
Lively into the late evening around the restaurant and bar clusters on Honduras, Gorriti, and Costa Rica; quieter on the residential side streets and noticeably calmer toward Palermo Hollywood and the parks.

Transportation & practical information

Line D's Plaza Italia and Palermo stations sit on the barrio's edge, each roughly a 10 to 15-minute walk from the heart of Soho or Hollywood — most visitors combine the Subte with taxis or ride-hailing to cover the rest.

Skip the rental car for time spent in the city itself. Traffic is heavy and can be aggressive by international standards, parking is scarce and often expensive in Recoleta, Palermo, and San Telmo, and the Subte (metro), buses, and ride-hailing apps like Uber and Cabify cover the neighborhoods here well. A car makes more sense only if you're heading out of the city, for example toward the Tigre Delta or the Pampas.
