Coronado is a quiet, resort-town peninsula across San Diego Bay from downtown, connected to the mainland by the Coronado Bridge and a long sandbar called the Silver Strand. Its small-town main street, Orange Avenue, is lined with shops and restaurants, a short walk from calm, family-friendly beaches and the red-roofed Hotel del Coronado, a Victorian-era landmark that has anchored the town since 1888. The pace here is slower and more residential than downtown.

Transportation & practical information

The San Diego-Coronado Bridge connects to downtown by car or rideshare in about 10-15 minutes without traffic; a passenger ferry also runs between the Coronado Ferry Landing and downtown's Broadway Pier. There's no trolley or direct rail link.

You don't need a car within any single neighborhood — the Gaslamp Quarter, La Jolla, Coronado, and Pacific Beach are each walkable once you're there. But San Diego's neighborhoods are spread across a wide area with no direct transit between most of them, so a rental car or regular rideshare use makes covering more than one area far easier.
