Downtown Dubai grew up around the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, and it's the closest thing the city has to a postcard center. The Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountain, and the Burj Khalifa's own observation decks are all within a short walk of each other, wrapped in wide plazas and air-conditioned walkways built for tourists.

Transportation & practical information

The Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa metro station connects Downtown to the rest of the city in minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are easy to find outside any hotel or the mall.

Skip the rental car unless you're planning day trips outside the city. The metro, tram, and ride-hailing apps cover the main visitor districts, and Dubai's fast highways and toll gates (Salik) can catch visitors off guard.
