Kata and Karon sit just south of Patong on Phuket's west coast — two long, gently curving beaches separated by a small headland, with a noticeably calmer pace than Patong despite being only a 15-minute drive away. Kata is the smaller and more walkable of the two, with a compact village center; Karon's beach is longer and its hotels more spread out.
