Railay is a small peninsula wedged between Ao Nang and Krabi Town, cut off from the road network entirely by the limestone cliffs that surround it — the only way in or out is by longtail boat. That isolation is the whole appeal: dramatic karst walls rise straight out of the sand, the beaches are calmer and less commercial than Ao Nang's, and the peninsula draws rock climbers from around the world to its cliffs. A car or scooter is useful if you're based in Ao Nang and want to explore Krabi Town, viewpoints, or other beaches along the coast — renting one requires a motorcycle-endorsed license plus an International Driving Permit if you're riding a scooter.
