Ao Nang is Krabi's main beach town, strung along a curving bay on the mainland coast, roughly 30–40 minutes by road from Krabi International Airport. It's the most built-up and practical base in the province — a main road lined with restaurants, dive shops, tour operators, and hotels, backed by a beach lined with longtail boats waiting to run visitors out to nearby islands and to Railay, a short ride south.

Songthaews and Grab connect Ao Nang to Krabi Town and Krabi Airport; longtail boats from the beach reach Railay in about 15–20 minutes and run through most of the day, though less frequently after dark or in rough weather.

Not essential for the beach road itself, but a rental scooter or car makes day trips to Krabi Town, viewpoints, and other beaches along the coast easier — a motorcycle-endorsed license and International Driving Permit are required for a scooter.
