Transportation & practical information

No metro or tram station sits directly in El Barrio, but it's an easy walk to the Explanada and Puerta del Mar, where several TRAM lines connect to the rest of the city, the airport bus, and Playa de San Juan. The Santa Bárbara Castle elevator, reached via a tunnel on Jovellanos Street, is a few minutes' walk away.

Skip the rental car if you're staying near the center. El Barrio's streets are narrow and largely pedestrian, parking downtown is limited, and the TRAM already connects the center to Playa de San Juan directly. A car is only useful for day trips further up or down the Costa Blanca coast.
