Seogwipo sits on Jeju's south coast, a smaller, slower city built around a waterfall-cut coastline rather than a single beach strip. Jeongbang Waterfall, one of the few waterfalls in Asia that drops directly into the ocean, sits a short walk from downtown, and the Lee Jung-Seop Street art district and Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market fill in the rest of a compact, walkable core.

What it's actually like to stay here

Seogwipo feels calmer and more local than Jeju City or Jungmun — a working harbor, a covered market, and streets that mix seafood restaurants with small galleries and cafes tied to painter Lee Jung-Seop, who lived here. It's also the starting point for several of the Jeju Olle Trail's coastal walking routes.

Stay here if

Stay here if you want to be close to Jeju's most striking waterfalls, prefer a slower, more local pace than Jungmun's resort strip, or plan to walk sections of the Jeju Olle Trail.

Stay elsewhere if

If a swimmable beach right outside your hotel is the priority, Jungmun's Saekdal Beach is a short drive away and better suited — Seogwipo's coastline here is mostly rock and cliff.

Transportation & practical information
