Monti is Rome's oldest rione, or historic district, just north of the Colosseum. Once a crowded, rough part of the ancient city, it's now known for narrow, sloping streets, small squares, independent boutiques, and a trendy but still relatively low-key atmosphere compared to Centro Storico.
