Where to Stay in Kardamena, Kos

Kardamena is a former fishing village on Kos's south coast, now the island's busiest beach resort, with a long sandy beach backed by a dense strip of bars, tavernas, and shops. It draws a largely package-holiday crowd, with a lively bar and club scene concentrated along the seafront in summer. Boats to the volcanic island of Nisyros run from Kardamena's small harbor, a popular day trip from the resort.

What it's actually like to stay here

Busy and holiday-paced through the day, with the beach filling up with sunbeds and umbrellas, then noticeably livelier after dark as the bars and clubs along the seafront strip open up. It's more nightlife-driven than most of Kos's other beach towns, though generally calmer than Zakynthos's Laganas or the busiest strips on Rhodes.

Stay here if

Best for beach-and-nightlife travelers and budget-conscious groups who want a long sandy beach and an active evening scene within walking distance of most hotels.

Stay elsewhere if

Consider Kos Town instead if you want ancient ruins, a quieter evening, or a real town center rather than a resort strip built mainly for beach and nightlife.

Walkability
The seafront strip is flat and walkable, with most bars, restaurants, and shops within a short walk of any beachfront hotel.
Noise at night
Lively into the evening along the seafront strip in peak season; quieter away from the main beach road.

Transportation & practical information

Kardamena is about 25–30 minutes by car or KTEL bus from Kos Town and close to Kos International Airport, making transfers quick; bus service to Kos Town thins out in the evening.

Kos is flat and genuinely popular for cycling, so a rental car isn't essential if you're staying in one town and comfortable biking or bussing to nearby beaches. Consider one if you want to reach the Asklepion, Kefalos, or beaches further afield on your own schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kardamena good for a quiet beach holiday?
Not really — it's the island's busiest resort strip, built around beach time and nightlife. For a quieter beach stay, a smaller village or Kos Town's own beach areas are a better fit.
