Where to Stay in Hollywood, Los Angeles

This is the stretch of Hollywood Boulevard and the blocks around it, from Ovation Hollywood at Highland Avenue east toward Vine Street. It's the neighborhood most visitors picture when they think of LA: the Walk of Fame's brass stars underfoot, the TCL Chinese Theatre's handprint-covered forecourt, and the Dolby Theatre where the Oscars are held. It's touristy by design, but it earns the crowds — everything here is within a few blocks, and the Metro connects it straight to Downtown.

What it's actually like to stay here

Busy and a little theatrical at almost any hour — costumed street performers, tour buses, and neon marquees along the boulevard. It thins out and turns more residential just a few blocks north or south.

Stay here if

Best for first-time visitors who want the classic LA sights within walking distance, and for anyone building a trip around the Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre, or a show at the Dolby or Pantages.

Stay elsewhere if

Consider another neighborhood if you want a quiet, low-key stay — Hollywood Boulevard stays loud and crowded well into the evening, and it's not the most walkable base for the beach areas.

Walkability
Flat and easy along Hollywood Boulevard itself, with sidewalks that stay crowded during the day. The side streets quiet down fast once you step off the main strip.
Noise at night

Transportation & practical information

Good — the Metro B Line's Hollywood/Highland and Hollywood/Vine stations put you a few stops from Downtown LA and Universal Studios. Santa Monica and Venice need a transfer or a rideshare.

You don't need a car for LA's main tourist areas — Metro rail and rideshare cover Hollywood, Downtown, Santa Monica, and Venice well enough. Rent one only if you're planning day trips further out, like Malibu or Griffith Observatory at odd hours, since parking downtown and in Hollywood can be expensive and hard to find.
