Where to Stay in Downtown Las Vegas, Las Vegas

The original Las Vegas casino district, centered on the pedestrian-only Fremont Street Experience — five blocks of vintage neon signs under a canopy that puts on a free light show every night. It's smaller, cheaper, and more old-school than the Strip.

What it's actually like to stay here

Retro and a little grittier than the Strip — classic casino signage, street performers, live music on outdoor stages, and a younger, more local crowd.

Best for travelers who want a taste of old Las Vegas, lower prices than the Strip, and a compact area you can cover entirely on foot.

Stay elsewhere if

Consider the Strip instead if you want the newest mega-resorts, high-end shopping, or headline production shows — Downtown's scene is smaller and more casual.

Walkability
Very walkable — the whole Fremont Street Experience district is about five pedestrian-only blocks, and most of what you'd want is within that stretch.
Noise at night
Loud directly under the Fremont Street canopy, especially during the hourly light shows and live music; a block or two away it quiets down fast.

Transportation & practical information

The Las Vegas Monorail doesn't reach Downtown, but the Deuce and SDX buses run to the Strip, and it's roughly a 10–15 minute rideshare from most Strip resorts.

Skip the rental car if you're staying on the Strip or Downtown — traffic and resort parking, often with a fee, make driving more hassle than it's worth. A car only makes sense if you're planning day trips out to the Hoover Dam or Red Rock Canyon.
