Transportation & practical information

The historic center has no metro (Santiago doesn't have one), and its narrow streets mean buses stop at its edges rather than running through it. Santiago's train station and bus station are both about a 15–20 minute walk from the cathedral, and the airport bus (line 6A) also terminates near the center.

Skip the rental car if you're staying in the historic center. Its granite streets are narrow, largely pedestrian, and steep in places, parking is scarce, and everything worth seeing is within easy walking distance. A car is only useful for day trips into the wider Galician countryside or coast.
