San José del Cabo is the older and quieter of the two Cabo towns, built around a colonial-era plaza and a mission church founded by Jesuit missionaries in 1730. Its historic center and the adjoining Gallery District are laid out on a walkable grid of cobblestone streets a few blocks deep, lined with restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries rather than the bars and clubs of Cabo San Lucas. The beach itself sits a bit further out and isn't the draw here — this is a town to walk around in, not a beachfront strip.
