Central is Hong Kong Island's financial and administrative core. The flat land along the harbourfront holds bank towers, the Star Ferry pier, and the Central MTR interchange; behind it, the Central–Mid-Levels Escalator climbs through the bars and restaurants of Soho and PMQ's converted heritage buildings toward the Mid-Levels.

Suits and skyscrapers give way to narrow, sloped lanes within a few minutes' walk — polished glass towers along the waterfront, then small galleries, antique shops, and bars the moment you head inland toward Hollywood Road and Soho.

Transportation & practical information

Central MTR station is an interchange for the Island and Tsuen Wan lines, with an underground passageway connecting to Hong Kong station for the Airport Express and Tung Chung line; the Star Ferry pier and Central bus terminus are both a short walk away, putting the rest of Hong Kong within easy reach.

Skip renting a car. Streets in Central, Causeway Bay, and Wan Chai are narrow, steep in places, and parking is scarce and expensive — the MTR, tram, taxis, and Star Ferry cover these neighborhoods faster and more cheaply than driving would.
