Where to Stay in Laganas, Zakynthos

Laganas is a long, built-up beach strip on Zakynthos's south coast, facing the sandy bay that gives the island's National Marine Park its name. A single main road runs the length of the village, packed with bars, clubs, tavernas, and shops, right up against a 9km stretch of beach shared with roped-off loggerhead turtle nesting sites. It's the busiest, most nightlife-driven base on the island, drawing a young, largely package-holiday crowd through the summer.

What it's actually like to stay here

Loud and lively, especially at night — Laganas is the closest thing Zakynthos has to a party town, with bars and clubs running late into the night along the main strip. By day it's more laid-back beach-and-sunbed territory, with boat trips to Turtle Island (Marathonisi) and the Blue Caves departing from its small harbor.

Stay here if

Best for younger travelers and groups who want nightlife and a beach right outside, and for anyone prioritizing an easy, walkable strip of bars, restaurants, and beach access over quiet.

Stay elsewhere if

Consider Zakynthos Town instead if you want a quieter base, a more local feel, or an early night — Laganas's main strip stays loud until the early morning through peak summer.

Walkability
The main strip is flat, walkable, and dense with bars, restaurants, and shops, running directly behind the beach. Most of what a visitor needs is within a 10–15 minute walk end to end.
Noise at night
Loud well into the night along the main road and near the clubs in peak season; quieter side streets and beach-front stretches further from the strip's center offer some relief.

Castelli Hotel

★★★★
  • ❤️ Best for couples

Our take A calmer alternative to staying directly on Laganas's main strip, trading some nightlife proximity for an adults-only, boutique-scale stay still within reach of the bay's beach.

  • A boutique-scale property with a more personal approach to service
  • Set in Agios Sostis, a calmer corner of the bay away from the busiest nightlife

Tzante Hotel Zakynthos

★★★
  • 🎉 Best for nightlife

Our take A no-frills, nightlife-focused stay that puts you inside the action on Laganas Main Street rather than a walk away from it — a fit for the strip's party crowd more than anyone after quiet.

Good for

  • Nightlife
  • Budget travelers

Budget-conscious travelers and groups who want to be right in the middle of Laganas's nightlife, with a pool and bar built into the stay itself.

Why we like it

  • Directly on Laganas Main Street, a few steps from the beach and the strip's bars and restaurants
  • An on-site poolside bar and nightclub, useful if nightlife is the point of the trip
  • Adults-only, so the crowd and pace stay consistent with that focus
  • A relatively accessible price point for a location this central

What to know

  • Being on the main strip with its own nightclub means real noise into the night, especially in peak summer
  • Adults-only, so it's not a fit for families traveling with children

  • Within 500 meters of the main strip's shops, tavernas, bars, and clubs

Transportation & practical information

Laganas is about 20–25 minutes by car or KTEL bus from Zakynthos Town and the airport, with bus service thinning out considerably in the evening — many visitors rely on taxis or transfers after dark.

A rental car is genuinely useful on Zakynthos — the island's best-known sights, including the Navagio viewpoints and the Blue Caves, sit well outside both Laganas and Zakynthos Town, and bus service to them is limited or nonexistent.

Frequently asked questions

It works for families who prioritize beach access and don't mind noise, but its nightlife focus and late-night crowds make quieter towns like Zakynthos Town or a smaller village a better fit for most families.
