What it's actually like to stay here

Lively and a little unpolished in places rather than postcard-perfect — Brno's old town mixes handsome Baroque and Gothic buildings with ordinary shops, trams rattling along the main streets, and a big student population that keeps cafés and bars busy well into the evening. Freedom Square and the streets around it are the social center, especially on weekend nights, while Zelný trh's market stalls and the quieter lanes up toward Petrov and Špilberk feel calmer and more residential.

The main train station sits right at the edge of the area, a five-to-ten-minute walk from the cathedral and Freedom Square, and the bus station is close by too.
