Everything in the village is within walking distance. Getting to and from Hallstatt itself typically means a train to Hallstatt or Obertraun station followed by a short lake ferry or a shuttle bus into the village center — there's no direct train station in the village itself.

Hallstatt's historic center is closed to day-visitor car traffic for most of the day — cars without a village hotel booking are turned away and directed to the P2/P3 car parks outside town, which routinely fill by mid-to-late morning in peak season.
